And so in that situation, you could have had less manpower but you had more power because you had the technical power and machinery. So the Indians were continually being displaced because they didn't have manufacturing or weaponry. But even when you had like weaponry and the French and the British both had comparable military technology, it's almost insurmountable for you to defeat a culture that has 20 acts as many people as you have.
