In the last Morocco crisis, Abdul Aziz de la Ziz was forced to step down as Sultan. The new king made an alliance with Berber tribes and won a war against French occupation. But he had to reverse European imperial powers' protections for so-called minorities in Morocco or lose his throne. He died not until 1948 after spending about six months living on pensioners' pensions.
