Patricio Del Real is the author of Constructing Latin America, Architecture, Politics and Race at the Museum of Modern Art. He says that Mexican nationalism as put forward by the state is deeply tied up with a sort of notion of the indigenous. In Mexico it's very striking how Mexican nationalists are inextricably linked to an idea of 'indigenous culture'
