Egypt was next on the list of nations to be invaded by Cyrus the Great's Persians. The Egyptian Pharaoh, Amisees II, married Aprius' daughter to legitimise his claim to the throne as a continuation of the 26th dynasty. In 525 BCE, the two armies met at Pelusium, the easternmost point of the Nile Delta,. The Akaymanid Persians absolutely crushed the Egyptians at the Battle of Pelusium and they were forced to flee to Memphis.
