The Strange Cycle of Hallucinations
The elves don't necessarily have like a steady food supply because it's underground. The mold that's on the grain, which they call Adder corn is a hallucinogenic. So he gets into this cycle. He's constantly envisioning himself as an animal and the animal changes every few minutes. It's so bizarre.
