Vira finds Mr. Trepoff and shoots him, maybe the first time in this story that someone successfully shoots somebody. She used a revolver called a British Bulldog, which was the same type of gun that three years later, Charles Gato in the US used to kill President Garfield for basically no good reason. Masha misses entirely, but she then gets in a shootout with some cops and she ends up winds up sentenced to Siberia. Vera though, she gets caught and she goes on trial, but it's a jury trial, which is kind of new at the time. And the jury after deliberating and hearing out what everyone has to say is like, you know what? Fuck
