The Role of Time in Psychopathology

The personality state is how people are different from what they usually are at any given moment. It's interesting that you instantly go to thinking of pathologizing it right because we could think of like a moment where we have an increase in a personality state that's really adaptive. So for example it could be someone who's low in extraversion and they have a personality high state level extraversion in order to do well at their customer service job for example. And also so I think that in some ways that we need to think about it both from adaptive and maladaptive but I think also to your question of thinking about states made me or how it relates to being different from your normal self.
