The Evolution of the Measles Virus
The measles virus probably came from something like bovine rinder pest. But archaeological evidence isn't really clear on that, so we don't really know exactly where it came from. At a bare minimum, there needs to be 26 susceptible people in a population every year for measles to persist. And then once infected and hopefully recovered, you were immune.
