CHAPTER

The Risks of Artificial Intelligence

There's a huge pandemic that could kill 10 to 90 percent of people if we got extremely unlucky. We also have synthetic biology, which creates new possibilities for accidental creation of diseases much worse than the one nature would typically throw up. A great power war is kind of like having World War II, but again with modern technology probably wouldn't lead directly to extinction. I think culture is one of the biggest risks here where it's something that's invisible, it's amorphous,. But it impacts daily decisions and behavior. And then the sixth one would just be like something else that we haven't thought of yet: risk of totalitarianism.
