Select Committees

The committees that we have today are written into the official rules of the House and the Senate. They haven't changed since the 1970s, which was the last time there was a structural reform in the way standing committees are divided and in their jurisdictions. There are many what we call select committees that might crop up at certain times when Congress needs to deal with a specific issue of the day.
