The novel literate history tells us, had its beginnings in the birth of modernity in the west. A lot of early indian novels are very derivative of western forms because there's that pressure of imitation of their authoritys saying, this is how it should be done. You do it. Just change the names of the characters and the situations, but it's got to be written when they're in the didactic style. It was the traveller who makes himself at home anywhere he or she goes.
