What I Love About African American Slang Terms in English

Roxanne Jones: We have African American folks and speakers of African American English to thank for all of our treasured slang terms in English. These are terms that are so often attributed to broad city or the Internet but they derive from ballroom culture, which was a community of extremely marginalized black and Latinx,. trans and gay drag performers whose heyday was in 1980s New York. She says we don't want to give credit where credit is do and we don't wants to acknowledge the originators of some of this language. Jones: The least we can do if we're going to use some of the products of these communities is to support them at every turn.
