The stoic world view is likely not what you think that it is. It is unlike anything that modern westerners are exposed to in our educational system. Many people reflexivly recoil from the stoic conception of a providential cosmos. Still, even if we accept that the universe has a purpose and that it is our best interest to line ourselves with that purpose, how do we derive ethical norms from nature? The concept is called ochiosis. This foundational stoic ethical doctrine is derived from stoic physics. Once again, this hilits the interdependence of the parts that comprise the stoic philosophical system.
