Early Adjunctive Methylene Blue in Patients With Septic Shock in RCT
Methylene blue inhibits the vasodilatory effect of nitric oxide, which would be a benefit in distributive shock. Two RCTs looking at methylene blue published in 2001 and 2002 showed no difference in clinical outcomes. But then come in this open access article entitled Early Adjunctive Methylene Blue in Patients with Septic Shock in RCT. And what the authors found was that methylene blue significantly reduced the time to vasopressor continuation by 29 hours.
