Palpation of the Median Nerve
You can reliably palpate nerves in the upper and lower limb. If your nail bed goes white, that's a very soft, non-nautious stress. I would use as a guide a pressure-wydian thumb so that the nail bed went white. It's something that shouldn't be painful if it is a bit abnormal. The nerve is abnormally sensitive to gentle pressure. That tells you that you've got abnormal sensitivity to preliminary pinching.
