In scotland, two men were found guilty of murdering 16 people and selling their corpses for dissection. This prompted a change in the law that allowed anatomists to take unclaimed bodies from workhouses and hospitals. In the us, grave robbing was also a problem, tied to some pretty horrific and systemic race ism. Prior to the nineteenth century, authorities and people turned a blind eye to gray robbing because it mostly happened in poor areas as well as predominantly african american areas. And slave owners sometimes sold an donated bodies of their slaves to medical schools. It wasn't until some one affluent or white, was effected that the general public finally started taking his stand against grey robbing
