What Is Melancholia?
The person suffering from melancholia is not able to pin down what that person or, in the case of an abstraction, wat that thing actually meant to them. So they are feeling a loss of something that they didn't fully understand. And you can then say that that is what is causing you to feel melancholic. But that's only part of the story. Whoreas in melancholia, they don't really know. After the fact, after that object has been lost, what occurs is that the person ho starts to unpack and try to understand what that thing or person meant to them - which is kind of an impossibility.
