The Role of the Microbiome in Multiple Sclerosis

To study multiple sclerosis, Andrea works primarily with lab mice. With mice, what we're able to do is actually genetically manipulate them. What I've done is I've changed one of the sensors of the microbiome. So not only are these sensors responding to what's going on in the gut, but they're also actively changing the population of microorganisms that they're sensing. And so this is another piece of that puzzle that's just been missing for a while.
