Why Model Organisms Are So Powerful
Bob Greene: I think the frustration for organismally comparative biologists like me and Marty is that it feels like there's too much focus on these individual species. He says model organisms are really powerful because what we get is a lot of understanding, which can then be used in a comparative context. Greene: But maybe it's better just to abandon this whole path of using model organisms so that we get back all of that other source of variation.
