Rome is very much hands-on. It's really making you not want to be Roman, which I guess is quite post-colonial in its way. You get a lot of mention of it in all the mediums that I took a look through,. Like even 60s Doctor Who, when they went back to Rome, they really pushed to highlight how awful it was. So after engaging in this rather expansive survey of classical reception and science fiction stories across media, is it possible to answer why this source material seems counter intuitively to be a perennial point of inspiration for a genre otherwise so interested in science, technology, and looking to the future? How do you mean?
