The Kessler Syndrome
This junk is flying around so fast that it's quite surprising that there aren't even more accidents crashes. This can cause real problems for satellites like the ones we use to help forecast our weather or the ones that take pictures of Earth. It could also be dangerous for the human astronauts aboard the International Space Station. The Kessler syndrome, named after a NASA scientist who first came up with the idea in 1978.
