The Importance of Self-Service Counters
Is this a sign of a world that's growing increasingly impersonal? I mean, if I want to book a GP appointment, I use a nap. Supermarkets are basically self-service counters now. Should we fight against it? Or is it broadly a good thing, actually? Does it free people who would ordinarily be manacled to those repetitive, terrible jobs to do other stuff that makes them happier and that creates more value for society? It's a good thing if it works. But exactly as both Aish and Thomas said, when it doesn't work, it's so mind-numbingly frustrating that you just can't cope. And that's where we do need people
