The Role of Intensity in Age Group Running

When they're first starting out, it's really not a problem for them to get intensity. It's very difficult to come be on a flat course, hit a hill and hold intensity at the same level. Olympic distance courses are becoming tighter with more 90 degree turns,. More little short hills. So they're more like a criteria and less like a traditional flat time trial. And then you get to an Ironman where it's almost you're riding at tempo for six hours. They have to ride in a more stochastic way that would handle those accelerations so much better.
