The average tenure of a director of development is 18 months. Only 19% of donors have trust in the philanthropies that are around them, says Lisa Kogan. When you're sending out a massy mail to people, some sort of fund raising thing, send it to yourself first the day before and ask yourself what would they feel if somebody said to them the things they are saying to prospects? "I think it's people or us," she says.
