The Importance of Regulating Nighttime Lighting

In defense of wild night I talk about the importance of regulating the way that we light our cities, so that we can return to semi darkness in order to preserve both human health and more than human biodiverse health. The World Health Organization characterizes nighttime lighting as a carcinogen because their studies have revealed that night shift workers who are exposed to a lot of artificial high pressure sodium bulbs and LEDs that are blue have extremely high rates of cancer compared to their diurnal working partners. Being able to aesthetically perceive a starry night sky is similar to the way we immerse ourselves in forests. It's transformative in a positive psychophysiological way.
