The Green Revolution
The green revolution began with the rockefeller foundation funding agricultural scientists, among them norman borlog. It led to nation-wide growth in several countries that are now held up as some of the big examples of countries coming out of poverty in the twentieth century. And it's really hard to think of something that's been more important for human flourishing than philanthropy. The world is not a huge amount of money, but if the world becomes better and cosmopolitan, maybe they could be in the future too.
