The Nutmeg Tree
The Dutch had to bring bandans back as slaves to teach them how to grow the nutmeg. Several hundred bandanies did manage to escape and take refuge on their islands. Their stories and songs have been preserved, and to this day the bandanies annually go back to their islands to remember the genocide and also to remember their ancestral connections with the land.
