We think that things that people say a lot tend to get like phonologically worn down. But I'm not sure if that's really true. Could they have just got it wrong? Like is this just a case of like a word now accidentally sounds and looks a lot like a word from back then)? 2000 years ago is not ages ago. Yeah and it's a very long word.
