A lot of games for which part of the pleasure of being in the game is you're in this alternate very well defined space and the rest of the world melts away. Machine gambling seems to be more like, no, everything is obliterated, right? Like your sense of self is gone, your sense of time is gone. When I taught this stuff to my students, a lot of my students were like, wow, that sounds so much like descriptions of the joys of like intense opiates. Right.
