The Shuggy Bane came out like a series of short stories, almost like these vignettes or these little cinematic moments. Douglas is always writing about community and I'm writing about belonging within that community. For me it's also a working class sensibility. You can't really claim time and history as just your own because you're part of a collective. And so for me it was always about the we and that was what I wanted to do. The whole purpose of fashion or why I loved fashion as a young man,. why I studied it was because I wanted to move people - create something entirely new and then make you feel something.
