How to Explain the Asymptotic Freedom
It took many years to get really decisive experimental evidence. The theory indicates that it should get simpler at high energies, but I don't think any of us anticipate how much simpler the experiments would look. What happens is sort of like a lightning bolt, if you produce a quark that's moving rapidly, it produces a whole ionization track of other quarks and anti quarks and gluions That then can gel into the particles we actually see.
