The January Employment Report Shows a 3x Gain in the Labor Market

Non-farm payrolls rose by 2.7 million in January, more than twice the number of jobs expected. The report consists of two parts, the household survey and the establishment survey. Both are smoothed to model a continuous data series with seasonal adjustments. Some analysts suggest war firms retain their additional workers this year. But others say people who normally would have been laid off after having been hired for the season might have had their contracts extended.
