Jacobinaline patriots stepped in to run the city as they saw fit. Initially backed by working classes who were eager for improvements. But this power dynamic was disrupted by a breakdown of maritime trade. This economic slowdown got the merchants thinking maybe they couldn't sit on the political side lines any more, and got the workers thinking that all their previous support for the jacobins had gotten them is less work and lower wages.
