Chanting is a great way to exorcise the mind with something like chanting. It can also help to really slow and relax and kind of ease the mind into meditation. As you're learning chants, it's an audible indication of the improvements of your practice. These chants are not something that i created. They're not even something that anybody who currently ive created. And they've been handed down from person to person over generations. The aspects of this is to have respect for our elders and have gratitude for them.
