Cavin: I just find it a little bit unfathomable that predict spon and encore. One of predicts mainact es with something called virus hunting, and that's also going to be a major activity of deep vision. The idea is we want to know what viruses are out there. Most virus hunting is probably more like going to those wet markets with various wild cock creatures or bush meat markets in other parts of the world.

In this episode of the podcast, Rob Reid and Kevin Esvelt discuss USAID’s new “Deep VZN” program, which aims to discover new pandemic-grade viruses and publish their genomes to the world. Esvelt estimates that there are currently around 30,000 people who could then easily build them.
