In 1995 theological dictionary of the New Testament, this is what it says: "All Protestant attempts to evade this interpretation are to be rejected" The Greek terms petros Peter and Petra rock were interchangeable in Jesus's day. D.A. Carson provides an argument for if the Protestant interpretation were correct, then we actually know what Greek word Christ would have used. If Matthew wanted to say no more than that Peter was a stone in contrast with Peter the rock, the more common word would have been lithos stone of almost any size.
