Is There a Semantic Layer?

In the past, enterprise e r d diagrams were just pretty pictures or pd files. The next what eneed go to to day is to make that more executable. My personal dream is like any if you have a sematic layer, your metrix queries should literally be small snippits of query data. We agree that a self-service service without a sementic layer is truly not possible.
