David Bowie and the Spiders From Mars
David Bowie was so flamboyant in his image with this crazy hair and the makeup, whatever. He consciously did it to try to get a rise out of people. It was his only self-serving goal. His own band in this period wasn't into this androgyny business. So there are all these stories about the spiders from Mars. On stage, they would dress all wild. Like Bowie had him rip off the outfits from Clockwork Orange and they would wear like makeup and wigs.
