The Philosophy of Trilogy

In both cases, it looks as if you are introducing some action which saves the five, but kills one. So I guess the philosophical puzzle then is how to account for the fact that people's intuitions change. In the first case, we think it's okay to kill one to save five. In the second case, wethink it's not okay to kill the one to save the five. And this has been a bit like a 50 year crime detective novel, a philosophical detective novel, with philosophers trying to work out what the difference is.
