In 431, a flotilla of small boats moor up on a stretch of rocky coast beneath Dublin Bay in the shadow of the Wicklow Mountains. The sailors decamp to a nearby cove led by a man named Palladius, an envoy of the Pope. He has just been appointed the first bishop of Ireland and is charged with converting the country's pagan masses. But it is far too big a job for one man alone, so he's come with assistance to help spread the word. While we do not know for sure, it is a fair guess that Patrick travels with him.
