The Mayor's Decision to Offer the Job to Juliet
The mayor was friends with Martha, at least it seems like she was. I thought perhaps she should have visited her old friend first to get her opinion and then go see Juliet. In the book, they play up the fact that one of the reasons Mayor John's likes Juliet so much is because she reminds her of a former version of herself. So she sees herself in Juliet. She sees Juliet as not only a sheriff replacement, but a mayor replacement down the line. And I think they do allude to that in a sense in this episode as well because he, when the power goes down, she starts to talk about retiring.
