The Importance of Causal Inference

You should always be careful when you're doing causal inference. To the extent that BART is a very convenient off-the-shelf tool, go ahead and use it. If you're chasing heterogeneous treatment effects, you don't necessarily have to use BART. There's nothing inherently causal about BART. It's just a very flexible regression framework that happens to be super easy to use in certain settings.
