The Early Jamaica and Saaw Music Scene
The island nation was gripped by high unemployment and poverty. This gave birth to the country's first youth culture movement. The name scaw is difficult to trace, but some early scaw musicians said it came from the upbeat, chopped sound of the electric guitars. Some members were originally studio musicians who played on tracks for upcoming singers like bob marley and peter tosh.
