The aliens need to communicate back with planet G. So the aliens have a weakness of sunlight. If you're going to fight a war on a planet that is famous for its access to sunlight, wouldn't you have a plan to like block it out while you're trying to take over the planet? Well, here's the thing. The assumption of the filmmakers and I honestly think I saw some like read some articles about this movie when it came out because it was such a hilariously misconceived notion.
