In 18 79, an irish republican named michael davitt defends the landl during a general agricultural depression in which tenants are having problems paying their rent. This league was set up to set up a collective structure within which tenant farmers could fight back against particular landlords. And there's also this change on the parliamentary front. Ireland was sort of unique in being able to send mps to the british parliament in westminster. A charles tebert parnell, an anglo irish landlord from wicklow, who isa county just south of dublin, became leader of the irish parliamentary party.
