The Spartans Voted for War

Thucydides here gives his opinion once again of what he believes is the truest explanation of why the Spartans voted for war. It's at this point inThucydides's narrative that he digresses a bit to tell how Athens grew so powerful after Peuge's defeat. After having voted for war in their assembly the Spartans then consulted the Delphic Oracle where they received Apollo support. The Corinthians had already anticipated this by sending Corinthian, Adrienne, and Magarian representatives to all of the other allies urging them to go to war.
