The COTPA Act and the Consequences for OTT Platforms
The COTPA Act is the principle legislation on which all these rules over the last two decades have come. The latest amendment came in May 31st as you had mentioned essentially requires all streaming platforms, not just television broadcasters or theater exhibitors to actually have these video warnings at the beginning and the middle of every episode of every TV show. And also have these written warnings on the bottom right of every shot where tobacco is being consumed or used or featured in any way. Arundi: Can you explain what exactly does this notification demand of OTT platforms and what happens if we are unable to comply for whatever reason?
