The Transformation of Chalon

Hoyd has known chelon since she was a child. He does not go to see chalon, he goes to see her father. It just begs the question, why is hoyd so interested in chelon? Like, what is this relationship? What does chelon mean to hoyd? I just have so many questions, because it was instantaneous.
