Lutheranism and the Atonement

Luther says we're saved by faith alone without the works of a law. But Protestants always distinguish justification and sanctification rather clearly and sharply, following Luther. In mere Christianity, you might remember Lewis goes very light on the theories of the atonement. Among Protestants, and even somewhat among Catholics, there's serious differences on how the atonement works.
