Is There Dark Energy in the Universe?
All of space is expanding simultaneously at the same rate all the time. Over many millions of light years, every second space grows by like 70 kilometers. It's a tiny, tiny level of expansion over short distances. And over short distances like between me and my chair or between the earth and the sun, other forces are more powerful. So for example, the sun is powerful enough to hold the earth in its orbit even if space is very gently expanding between it.
